Gin Made in Montalcino? Who's Idea Was That?

Simone Meattini of Trattoria Il Pozzo and to Gianluca Turchi of the Vino al Vino wine shop.

The botanical herbs are from the territory and in fact, this is a product with the stamp: Made in Montalcino.

“The idea of making a gin dedicated to Montalcino – Meattini explains – was born in the winter of 2019 during a chat between me and Gianluca talking about the gin phenomenon and its complete adaptability to any idea.

They decided to give it a try and dedicate a gin to the Ilcinese territory. Due to the pandemic, the idea slipped to June 2020 when it began to become reality by starting to do some tests with Nannoni Grappe (a company from Paganico, ed.).

After the initial difficulties in choosing the most suitable botanicals to reflect the Ilcinese territory in a gin, I called Sara Monaci, my childhood friend (from Sant’Angelo in Colle, ed.), a graduate in Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences and owner of the Erba Mistica herbalist’s shop in Bagno Vignoni, for help”.

Sara perfected everything with wisdom and experience and at that point there was only one non-secondary detail missing.

What to call the gin? “The name – continues Simone – was born at a table with friends. Montalcino is Mons ilcinus so the name of the gin must be “Ilginius”!
