The Duomo

One of the most famous churches in Rome is the Duomo in Florence. The church is a 5 minutes walk from Spadalux and a one minute walk from Piazza della Repubblica.

The David

Most tourists stand on line to see the statue of David, which is amazing. If you want to see a free replica of the statue, you can see one just outside the entrance of the Ufizzi Museum. Here are some facts about the statue:

  • The statue is over 17 feet (5.16 meters) tall and weighs more than five tons, making it three times the size of an average man.
  • Michelangelo began working on the statue on September 13, 1501, using a block of marble that had been partially blocked out by other sculptors and left outdoors.
  • The statue depicts David with one leg holding his weight and the other leg forward, causing his hips and shoulders to rest at opposing angles, giving his torso a slight S-curve. David carries a slingshot over his shoulder, emphasizing that his victory was one of cleverness, not force.
  • The original David is now in the Accademia, and copies have been installed in the Piazza della Signoria and the Piazzale Michelangelo
