The families whose lives ran beside the Tamanti
Every old family of Montalcino knows its own story; few know where it crosses the Tamanti’s. The storybook follows seven families whose lives ran beside the Tamanti for two centuries and more, joined to them and to one another by marriage, neighborhood, office and land. Choose a family:
- The Menchini: the house of Dr. Jacomo Tamanti’s wife Anna, whose heirs the Tamanti became.
- The Padelletti: neighbors, in-laws and a Brunello name; Cav. Enrico Padelletti, mayor; Guido and Hilda Zumpt. See also The Colombini Connection.
- The Begni: the family of Gaetano Tamanti’s wife Francesca, and of Clementina Begni Tamanti.
- The Ducci of Subbiano: Anna Tamanti’s marriage into the Casentino.
- The Brigidi: Tullio Scrivani’s family, of the Osticcio and the Albergo del Giglio.
- The Fineschi, the Faenzi and the Saloni: Franci Scrivani’s family, from Buonconvento to the Piave.
- The Paccagnini: builders of the cathedral bell tower, an architect in Rome and a pioneer of Brunello.
The women who carried land, houses and names between these families have their own page, The Women of the Tamanti Story, and shorter histories of the town are gathered in Other Stories of Montalcino.
